Ahmadinejad: Regional conditions in Iran, Syria’s favor

AhmadinejadIranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said regional conditions are changing today in favor of Tehran and Damascus.

Speaking in a meeting with visiting Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Walid al-Mualem, Ahmadinejad stressed that not only today, but also in the future, too, the long term interests and objectives of Iran and Syria are and would be quite intermingled.

The information website of the IRI Presidential Office reported Ahmadinejad as pointing out during the meeting on Wednesday, “The relations between Iran and Syria have roots in the depth of the revolutionary culture of resistance.”

He was quoted by the Islamic republic news agency as saying, “Comprehensive Tehran-Damascus relations keep getting deeper, wiser, and stronger with the passage of each new day, and such relations are not easily subjected to other developments.”

The president reiterated, “Keeping in mind that the international conditions are changing rapidly and the oppressor powers are facing increasing decline, Iran and Syria should more than ever harmonize in adopting major decisions.”

Ahmadinejad added. “If this harmony would be spectacular, definitely the other regional countries, too, would join in, in which case a great political, economic, and cultural power would take shape in the region.

The Syrian foreign minister, too, said during the meeting that Tehran-Damascus ties are deep-rooted, adding, “The two countries’ relations are so strong that no third country can ever harm them the slightest bit.”

Referring to the broadness of the existing bilateral relations and stressing the need for yet further expanding them, he said, “Relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran is of a very special importance for Syria and today we need to strengthen our ties more than ever before, since this would serve the interests of the entire regional countries.”
