Iran’s outgoing President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has met with his newly elected successor Hassan Rouhani and both vowed readiness to cooperate in order for the success of the coming government.

They also discussed domestic issues, especially politics and economy.

During a Tuesday meeting, Ahmadinejad once again felicitated Rouhani on his landslide victory in the 11th presidential election and wished him success.

Ahmadinejad had already issued a message on June 15, congratulating Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the Iranian nation, and Hojjatoleslam Rouhani.

Rouhani has vowed for better ties with the world, and aims to reduce the West’s sanctions against Iran over the country’s nuclear program.

At the meeting between the outgoing and incoming presidents, Ahmadinejad said his administration “is ready to transfer all responsibilities to the next government in a proper way,” according to an IRNA report.

Rouhani said, “The transitional period requires cooperation and coordination, and all parties are ready for this.” He said they appointed a two-member committee to follow up on their talks.

Rouhani said the country can promote welfare and global progress by “respecting differences.” He is set to take office in August.
