Iranian Official Praises Islamic Activities in Croatia

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast in a meeting with Head of Croatia’s Islamic Community Mufti Sevko Omerbasic in Zagreb appreciated the Islamic activities run in the country.

Mehman-Parast pointed to his visit to Zagreb Islamic center, and praised the center for its activities and its role in expansion of communication among Muslims in this region.

He and Omerbasic also discussed the situation of Muslims in Europe and Croatia.

“Islamic community of Croatia will do its best to show the real face of Islam to the European community; the exchange of views among the Iranian and Croatian Muslim researchers and thinkers is a very helpful action in development of relations,” the head of the Islamic community on Croatia expressed.

Croatia’s new President Ivo Josipovic had earlier stressed his country’s will for expanding ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all the political, economic and cultural fields.

Josipovic, a Social Democrat law professor and classical music composer, made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Zagreb Ali Ahani following his inauguration ceremony in 2010.

“Considering Iran’s vast facilities and potentials and also Croatia’s technical capabilities, I hope that the two countries’ cooperation would further expand in economic fields,” he added.

Josipovic also described a recently endorsed cooperation deal between a Croatian company and Iran as a good model for strengthening mutual economic cooperation.
