Al Khalifa regime could not stop uprising – ex-MP

Member of the now-resigned al-Wefaq faction in the Bahrain parliament said the regime of al-Khalifa could not afford to stop the popular uprising in the country by, among others, banning the Friday prayers congregations or other similar measures.

Jameel Kadhem told al-Alam news network Saturday that with several weeks on since the exertion of emergency situation in the country with a view to repress the peaceful uprising, people still take to streets, defying such violent measures as expulsion of employees from state bodies and hospitals or besieging of people with tanks and armors.

The Bahraini revolution is still alive and we witness a new initiative on the part of revolutionary protestors in the face of the regime’s suppression, the former lawmaker said, adding that people would not relinquish the battle until they get their legitimate rights.

Kadhem recounted the regime’s massive deployment of security forces in order to bar renowned Bahraini Alim, Ayatollah Issa Qasem from leading the Friday Prayers on May 6, adding that no such measures could stop people from taking to streets or join protest gatherings.

The resigned lawmaker warned the rulers of Bahrain to nod to the demand of Bahraini youths and annul death sentences handed to four young protestors, saying that death sentences would not prove an effective leverage of pressure against the people.
