Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki affirmed that his country supports the will of the Syrian people and the international community’s conclusions on the need to find peaceful solutions and a way, and that it opposes foreign interference and violence.

This came during a press conference with al-Maliki’s Egyptian counterpart Hisham Qandil on Monday, during which the Iraqi Prime Minister stressed the need for cooperation to prevent foreign interference and finding peaceful solutions, adding that vandalism and the use of arms will lead nowhere; rather they will only sow grudges and allow foreign interference.

He said that supporting moderation and peaceful solutions for the issues in Syria is the mutual position of Iraq and Egypt, voicing belief that everyone is now seeking a peaceful solution for the Syrian crisis.

For his part, Qandil said that the two sides agreed upon the need to end bloodshed in Syria, the importance of a political solution, and the rejection of foreign interference.
