AL urges UNSC action against Israel

The Arab League (AL) has agreed to ask the UN Security Council to take action to end Israel’s blockade on Gaza, a few days after an Israeli attack on an aid convoy.

AL Secretary General Amr Moussa told reporters after an emergency ministerial meeting in Cairo that the Arab states decided to work actively to end Israel’s “illegal siege,” Reuters reported.

It also demanded that the UN Security Council take action against the Israeli crimes against the Gazans.

“The siege on Gaza has been the center of our discussion and the central point in our resolution (Resolutions of Sirte) how to break the siege, not to deal with it,” Moussa said.

“All governments are called upon to help the people of Gaza by all means, without any regard to this siege which is illegal and the occupying power has no right to starve people under its occupation or under its siege.”

Moussa said that the ministers also agreed on implementing the resolutions of Sirte taken at an AL summit earlier this year calling for an end to the normalization of ties with Israel.

“To respect and implement the resolutions of Sirte, of the Summit of Sirte, in particular resolution 508 concerning, which called for the cancellation or suspension of all, in any and all actions that would be interpreted as normalization of relations with Israel,” he said.

A six-ship fleet carrying some 10,000 tons of humanitarian aid and accompanied by hundreds of international activists, the Gaza-bound Freedom Flotilla came under Israeli fire while it was in international waters.

The attack left at least 20 people dead and scores injured, according to Palestinian sources.
