AL wrong measures fuel Syria crisis

5d5a286d6a45108dead43bb759cbac45_LA senior Iranian official has criticized the Arab League (AL) for handing Syria’s seat to its foreign-backed opposition bloc, saying the ‘dangerous precedent’ further complicates the ongoing crisis in the Arab country.

Iran’s charge d’affaires in Damascus Abbas Golrou in an interview with Lebanon’s Al-Ahd news network on Saturday said “Arab states make historical mistakes in dealing with the crisis in Syria, which will not be erased from the memories of Arab nations and the Syrian people.”
The Iranian diplomat further added the wrong measure taken by the AL members would backfire on them.
Golrou described a national dialogue among the Syrians as the only way out of nearly two years of ongoing violence in the Arab country.
He also said the West and its regional allies should be held accountable for all the destruction and bloodshed happening in Syria.
On March 26, the Arab League handed Syria’s seat to its opposition bloc, known as the National Coalition, during a two-day summit held in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The League also authorized its members to send all the means of what it called self-defense, including weapons, to insurgents fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
