Iran, Iraq share similar stands on regional developments

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi conferred on Wednesday with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari on regional developments.

At the meeting, the two ministers underlined that both sides share similar stands on regional developments.

“We all live in the region and the current developments will leave impact on us,‘ said the Iraqi foreign minister.

“We believe that the demands of people in the region should be heard and met,” he said.

The Iraqi foreign minister expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral relations as well as exchange of visits between the two sides’ high ranking officials.

The Iranian foreign minister, for his part, described existing ties between the two countries as positive and underlined the need to form a joint high economic commission to explores avenues for enhancing bilateral economic relations.

Deployment of foreign troops in Bahrain is a strategic mistake and in case the situation does not go back to normal and suppression of people continue, the stability, and security of the region might be endangered, Salehi said.

Salehi called for rendering better services to Iranian pilgrims in Iraq.

Salehi heading a delegation arrived in Baghdad Wednesday on a two day visit.
