American people want reconciliation with Iran, analyst says

The American people favor “reconciliation” between the United States and Iran despite attempts by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to impose more pressure on Tehran over its nuclear program, an analyst says.

Netanyahu’s address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday drew a large number of protesters who gathered outside the US Capitol in Washington, DC, as they shouted slogans against the Israeli premier’s anti-Iran speech.

Meanwhile, a similar protest was held outside the Israeli consulate in Manhattan.

“The American people, in their majority, oppose Netanyahu’s position regarding the US negotiations with Iran,” Brian Becker, national coordinator at ANSWER Coalition, told Press TV on Tuesday. “Unlike, Netanyahu, they want there to be a negotiated settlement.”

The Israeli premier’s speech, scheduled to be made on Tuesday, is part of the regime’s attempts to block a nuclear agreement between Tehran and the Sextet of world powers – the US, Britain, Russia, China, France, and Germany.

Netanyahu stressed the Israeli regime’s anti-Iran stance in a speech that had “nothing new” to offer, according to President Barack Obama who said he did not watch it on TV.

Tehran also reacted to Bibi’s address with Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham calling it “Iranophobic”.

Becker noted the “the last thing the people of the United States want is another war or increasing tensions with Iran or any other country in the Middle East.”

Tehran and the P5+1 states have until the end of March to narrow their differences in a bid to reach a final and long-term accord aimed at putting an end to the 12-year-old dispute over Iran’s nuclear program.

Tuesday’s protest, organized by the ANSWER Coalition and other organizations, also focused on the Israeli regime’s crimes against the people of Palestine, Becker added.
