Ammar Hakim: Talks Only Way to Settle Differences among Iraqi Groups

Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim underscored that problems and differences among Iraqi groups can only be resolved through talks and dialogue.

“There is no way out but talks amongst Iraq’s political streams and all the existing problems should be settled this way,” Hakim said in a meeting with Iraqi tribal leaders.

Lamenting that problems in Iraq have never been studied and resolved deeply, he said, “We should convince all political groups through a national project to resolve their differences.”

Sectarian and ethnic tensions still run deep while Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is doing whatever he can to fend off attempts to weaken the country’s unity.

Iraqi politics are beset with entrenched internecine battles that continue to prevent any semblance of a unity government.

The ISCI leader also criticized the Maliki government’s administration method, saying, “This method is not suitable for the country today and should undergo some changes.”
