Another legal victory for Press TV

A court in Germany has once again ruled in favor of the alternative channel, Press TV.

A German administrative court has rejected the Munich media regulatory body, BLM’s appeal against the court’s earlier ruling allowing Press TV to resume broadcast. Press TV was taken off the SES-Astra platform in April after BLM argued that the channel did not have a broadcast license. Press TV launched a legal battle against BLM.

Last month, Press TV won the court case and resumed its satellite broadcast on SES-Astra. BLM filed a complaint against the court ruling, saying Press TV should not be allowed to hit German airwaves. But the court rejected BLM’s assertion and ruled in favor of the international news channel.

Press TV says the German government seeks to silence the alternative channel’s voice.

It says the ban was meant to stop the channel’s extensive coverage of Germany’s social and economic issues.

The channel has also covered the growing public anger in Germany over that country’s military involvement in Afghanistan.

Press TV has also covered xenophobic violence in Germany. One example was the case of Marwa el-Sherbini, the Muslim woman who was murdered over her Islamic headscarf back in 2009.

The news channel interviewed the Sherbini family and revealed their story to the world, prompting anger from German officials, who had reportedly ordered a media blackout on the highly sensitive case.
