Ashtiani admits involvement in murder

An Iranian woman, who has been convicted of complicity in the murder of her husband as well as adultery, has admitted to involvement in her husband’s murder.

In a press conference outside prison on Saturday, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani criticized her lawyers for what she called politicizing her case.

She told reporters in the northwestern city of Tabriz, where she was tried, that she would lodge a lawsuit against two Germans who illegally interviewed her son that led to his arrest.

She also dismissed claims that the interviews she has given so far were done under pressure.

Officials said that Ashtiani was allowed to meet her son Sajjad Qaderzadeh, who has been freed from jail three weeks ago, on humanitarian grounds.

Qaderzadeh served more than a month in prison for an illegal interview with two German nationals, who had posed as journalists.

He said that he would sue the two Germans and his lawyers, who asked him to do the interviews.

The two Germans were arrested in Tabriz in October for conducting an unauthorized interview with Qaderzadeh.

Iranian authorities say the two had entered the country on tourist visas, but they were working as journalists without accreditation. The two have admitted to violating the law.

Qaderzadeh also said that he would take legal action against Issa Taheri, who murdered his father in collaboration with his mother.
