Assad will remain in power: Robert Fisk

Assad will remain in power
A prominent British journalist says that the winner of the crisis will be President Bashar al-Assad and his government.
Robert Fisk, Middle East correspondent of Independent for over thirty years, and primarily based in Beirut, in his latest article, published in Independent newspaper emphasized that the West has been lying about Syria, and “Bashar Assad” will win the crisis in his country.

Fisk believes that there is an error going on in the war scenario against Syria, because the Western leaders’ intentions and the reality of what they want is so much different. They talk about their desire to topple President Bashar al-Assad much less, and show much more fear of the al-Qaeda Organization in the ranks of the Syrian armed opponents.

Fisk finally highlights that “As the Syrian tragedy deepens, so our moral Western policy towards the damned of this ghastly war has turned into a betrayal of its people.”

He adds that “But the most recent reports from rebel-held Syrian territory do indeed speak of looting and sectarian kidnappings and killing, ransom and retribution, of what one report from Atme – a rebel base on the border with Turkey – speaks of as a “beautiful” revolt marred by corruption.”

Fisk pointed to the joining of ‘Jabhat al-Nusra’, to some Jihadist groups and armed rebels of Syrian government and wrote: “The injection of Jabhat al-Nusra fighters and other proto-Jihadis has fouled the secular nature of the battle so badly that Assad’s original claims that al-Qa’ida was the regime’s enemy is beginning to look frighteningly true.”

Fisk reiterated that the two sides involved in the conflict in Syria, namely the Syrian army and opponent of Syrian regime, believe they can win, and this has led to the conflict to continue, however this prominent British journalist predicts that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to remain in power.
