‘Assault on Syria will jeopardize regional security’

According to IRIB, Nouri al-Maleki, in a meeting with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, emphasized in Baghdad Sunday the rights of the nations to determine the fate of their countries, warning that military attack against Syria would jeopardize stability and security in the region.
Maleki said they spare no efforts to prevent war on Syria, making use of his country’s utmost capacity at the regional and international spheres.
He appreciated Tehran-Baghdad ties, calling for reinforcement of bilateral relations in different arenas.
Zarif, for his part, emphasized expansion of relations between the two countries.
The Iranian foreign minister also in a separate meeting with Iraq’s Acting President Khudayr Musa Jafar Abbas al-Khuzai on Sunday, talked about the positive developments in Iraq, including successful holding of elections in that country as indicative of institutionalization of democracy.
Zarif considered maintenance of security and progress in Iraq as that of Iran.
The Iraqi acting president took note of commonalities, shared interests, historical heritage and brotherly relations between the two nations and termed as a model the ties between Iran and Iraq.
The Iranian foreign minister in his first foreign trip arrived in Baghdad earlier today to discuss bilateral ties and regional issues with high-ranking Iraqi officials.
