Egypt’s Health Ministry says at least three people have been killed and 60 more injured after thousands of Muslim Brotherhood supporters staged fresh mass rallies across Egypt.
On Friday afternoon, violent clashes broke out in several cities as angry protesters joined the rally to demand reinstatement of ousted president, Mohammad Morsi.
Tens of thousands of protesters later gathered in Cairo’s Nasr City to push for the goals of the 2011 revolution.
Egyptian police fired tear gas to disperse angry protesters flocking to Cairo’s Sphinx Square before the rallies gained momentum.
Earlier in the day, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police station in the Cairo neighborhood of Heliopolis, killing at least one officer and a civilian.
Many other regions across the country also became the scene of violent clashes between Morsi’s opponents and supporters and the police. Several other cities, including Zagazig, Mansoura, Giza and Tanta witnessed heavy clashes leaving dozens injured.
At least one death and nearly two dozen injuries have been also reported from Port Said. Fierce Clashes in Giza also left one person dead and nearly two dozen others injured.
In a separate development, a policeman was shot dead by militants in the city of al-Arish in the north of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula amid the ongoing fresh rallies by supporters of Morsi across the North African county.
