At least 9 worshipers have been injured in a bomb attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, officials say.

Police officer Javeid Mujtaba Gillani told local media that the blast occurred early on Thursday after the morning prayers in Trenz, a village 60 kilometers south of the city of Srinagar.

According to a police spokesperson, the explosive that caused the blast had been placed under a container outside the Jama Masjid (mosque).

The injured have been shifted to a district hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating the incident, but no one has claimed responsibility for the blast, yet.

India accuses Pakistan of arming individuals who have been fighting since 1989 for Kashmir’s independence or merger with Pakistan, a charge Islamabad denies.

The Muslim-majority region of Kashmir has been the scene of fierce fighting and violent clashes in recent years. Indian army soldiers are in constant clashes with the fighters seeking independence in the troubled region.
