Attacks on Israeli Army Reach 2 1/2-Year High: Israeli media

May saw the highest number of attacks in 2 1/2 years against Israeli occupation forces following an increase of nearly 40 percent in April, Israeli media reported.

Of the 365 attacks recorded in May, 271 involved firebombs, the Jerusalem Post cited a monthly report published this week by Israeli Security. The increase occurred in Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and the West Bank, as well as along border between Gaza and the occupied territories.

The tally for May is the highest on record since October 2015, when 620 attacks were recorded. One occupied soldier died as a result of attacks. Four more soldiers were injured, one in an explosion in Jerusalem and three others, as well as one settler, from a rocket near Gaza.

On the other hand, the Palestinians have organized weekly demonstrations along the border with the occupied territories. Protesters demonstrate their right of return to their occupied land through the “Great March of Return”.

More than 135 Palestinians have been martyred during the marches which started on March 30, the Land Day which Palestinians mark every year in this day.

On Thursday, Palestinian Maan news agency reported that a 23-year-old Gazan, Muhammad Ghassan Abu Farhana, was martyred the previous day from wounds he sustained during a massive protest on May 14, when occupation troops killed 61 people.

Many countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Sweden, have condemned the Zionist occupation regime for an overly aggressive response to the protests. For its part and as in many previous Israeli brutal attacks, the United States blames Resistance movements, especially Hamas, for the violence. Washington earlier this month vetoed a UN Security Council draft motion targeting Tel Aviv.
