Ayatollah Khorasani: “Muslim scholars’ presence is important for Islamic Unity Conference.”

Ayatollah Mohammad Vaez Zadeh Khorasani, contemporary Islamic thinker and member of the Supreme Committee at the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought in an exclusive interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA) noted the role of Islamic unity conference in institutionalizing unity and that it has manifested itself among scholars.

Founder of the University of Islamic denominations noted,” The influence of these conferences are better known when the influence of scholars in their countries are analyzed.” adding that many scholars from Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan and other Islamic countries who participate in this annual event can play an important role in Islamic unity when back to their countries.

He also said,” Some governments, who maintain a counter-proximity view, have not had a great influence on other countries in the world.”

Ayatollah Vaez Zade also referred to the political movements in the region who maintain counter-proximity views and expressed regret that proximity efforts by Iran have been subject to their efforts.

Top cleric referred to the theme of the upcoming Islamic Unity conference, “Holy Qur’an and its Role on Islamic Unity” as a constructive theme particularly if it is carried out based on a research on unity-centered verses of holy Qur’an.”

Former secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought also touched upon the history of proximity and hailed great figures who struggled for this aim.

senior cleric added,” Unfortunately many countries rely on their sectarian tendencies rather than Islam, a view that has to be replaced by priority of Islam over other issues.”
