‘Azar 16 Student Day essence of anti-arrogance struggles’

Iran’s Majlis Speaker says the Azar 16 movement, though bloody, could maintain the jihadi approach during the students’ struggles until the complete victory of the Islamic Revolution.

According to IRIB, Ali Larijani, who was addressing the open session of the Majlis on Sunday, commemorated the Students Day and said national and religious currents had been suppressed during the gloomy era under the Pahlavi regime before the Islamic Revolution, coupled with the US-led coup. However, he added, the brave acts by the Iranian students broke the frozen political ice inside the country and clicked new anti-colonial and anti-arrogance struggles.
The Students Day is the anniversary of the martyrdom of three students of University of Tehran on December 7, 1953 (16 Azar 1332 in the Iranian calendar) by Iranian police in the Pahlavi era. They were martyred when the police forces opened fire on the students of University of Tehran going on strike in protest at the resumption of Iran’s relations with Britain and the then US President Richard Nixon’s visit to Iran, following the coup d’état of 1953 against the democratically elected government of Mohammad Mosaddeq.
Larijani underlined that the Azar 16 institutionalized the essence of independence-seeking uprising in front of the global arrogance and colonialism.
Meantime, the Iranian Majlis speaker said that racism is the modern fascism displayed by the Zionist regime of Israel and the West, the US in particular that has kept itself blindly fervent supporter of the former.
The head of Iran’s consultative assembly further noted that today the combatants – who fight against racism – are those who are lined up among the Lebanese Hezbollah, Palestine’s Hamas and the Islamic Jihad of Palestine. Ali Larijani said that the West does not respect the Palestinians’ rights unless being faced with the brave Resistance of these combatants, and that diplomatic filibusters would bear nothing but waste of time and energy.
