Azerbaijan navy fleet docks in Iran’s Bandar-e Anzali

An Azerbaijan’s naval fleet has berthed at the northern Iranian port city of Bandar-e Anzali on a friendly three-day visit for the first time in the history of the two countries relations.

The Azeri peace and friendship flotilla is comprised of a Stenka-class G124 patrol boat leading by Subhan Bakirov, a representative of the Azerbaijani Navy. It docked at Bandar-e Anzali Thursday night.

Its crew members are set to meet with local Iranian Navy officials and honor the memory of the Islamic Republic’s martyrs of the Iraqi imposed war in the 1980s.

The visit is aimed at strengthening cooperation among Iran and the Caspian Sea littoral states.

Russia and Kazakhstan have previously dispatched five and one peace and friendship fleets, respectively, to Iran’s Bandar-e Anzali to boost international cooperation among the Caspian Sea’s littoral states.

The Iranian Navy has also sent five flotillas to the sea’s littoral states to convey the Islamic Republic’s message of peace and friendship and to promote sustainable security in the region.

Over the past few years, Iran’s Navy has increased its presence in high seas to safeguard naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and tankers.

Iran has repeatedly assured other countries that its military might poses no threat to other states, insisting that the country’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
