Bahraini Opposition Urges Mursi to Use Iran’s Experiences for Administering Egypt

Bahrain’s February 14th Revolution Youth Movement, a prominent opposition group, felicitated Mohammed Mursi on his election as Egypt’s new president, and asked him to use the Islamic Republic of Iran’s experiences for governing his Muslim state.

“Mohammed Mursi should make use of the experiences of Iran’s Islamic Revolution and the uniquely smart performance of the late Imam Khomeini (founder of the Islamic Republic) and establish certain bodies to protect the revolution against enemies’ plots,” the movement said in a statement.

The statement called o Mursi to establish bodies such as the Construction Jihad, a several-million-strong Basij (volunteers) force from the revolutionary youths to protect achievements of the Egyptian revolution, a military force similar the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) to protect the revolution against internal and external plots, and a Relief Committee to support the poor and the deprived classes of the people.

It also asked for the formation of a Revolution Council with participation of veteran politicians from different political factions and forces to help govern the country and maintain the progressive move of the Egyptian revolution.

Also in the statement, the movement demanded the Egyptian president-elect to voice his support for Bahrain’s revolutionary nation in their quest for democracy and justice.

Egypt on Sunday introduced its first democratically-elected leader after decades of autocracy and tyrannical rule. Head of Egypt’s Supreme Presidential Electoral Commission (SPEC) Farouq Sultan announced Mursi as the winner of the country’s presidential runoff, saying that Mursi received nearly 52 percent of the votes with over 13 million ballots, while former Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq won over 12 million votes.

Mursi will start forming a government after promising to be a leader for all Egyptians.

Government sources in Egypt said the country’s first democratically elected president, Mohammad Mursi will take his oath of office on Saturday.

Government sources told Al-Ahram Arabic news portal that the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) will hand over executive power to the President-elect Mohamed Mursi on Saturday evening after taking the oath.

The source said Field Marshall Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, the de facto ruler of the country since the fall of Mubarak in February 2012, will officially announce the handover of executive power to the elected president at the ceremony.
