Barahimi admits agreement with Tehran conference

The UN and Arab League special envoy to Syrian crisis says peaceful solution is the only solution for Syrian crisis.
Lakhdar Barahimi got his message across through his representative in the Tehran conference on Syria. In the message, Barahimi apologized his absence from the conference. “ I have been preparing for Genève 2 conference, so I could not attend in Tehran,” read the message.

“ both conferences are highly critical, and Syrian crisis wields dire impacts on the region and the world as well,” read the message, and that “ staggering figures come out for Syrian crisis and 4 millions of people have been abandoned their homes, of which 1.5 million reside in neighboring countries, and we should thank Syria’s neighbors for hosting the refugees.”

“Hundreds of thousands of deaths and injuries are the outcome of Syrian crisis. Hospitals and schools have been destroyed and there is no shelter for people,” read Barahimi’s message, and that “let express my agreement with your position that there is no solution other than peaceful solution for Syrian crisis.”

Barahimi also pointed to the meeting by Russian foreign minister and his Syrian counterpart. “They agreed to hold a conference with Syrian representative attending to implement Genève 1 accords,” read the message, adding that “we will work to support this agreement, and the conference would be held in near future.”

He appreciated the agreement between the US and Russia as ‘good omen,’ since “it could be an important step, and it is crucial for us to know that the first step should be a strong step.”
