Basij Commander vows to take revenge on US over recent events

Commander of Basij (volunteer) forces Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi on Wednesday warned that Tehran will take revenge on the US for its involvement in the recent events in Iran, including assassination of a renowned nuclear scientist and university professor.

“People are angry at those who staged the scene of recent events and terror attacks, but revenge should be taken from the US itself for these crimes and, God willing, this will happen,” Naqdi said, addressing a gathering of Basij commanders here in Tehran.

Referring to the assassination of the Iranian university professor and nuclear scientist, Masoud Ali Mohammadi, he said the attack proved that the West is opposed to the production and development of sciences and technology in Iran.

“…the terror attack against martyr Ali Mohammadi showed that the democrats ruling the White House have reached a dead-end and are staging a scenario which Carter performed 30 years ago,” Naqdi said.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly condemned certain western states, particularly US and Britain, for their interference in Iran’s internal affairs following the June 12 presidential election.

After President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected as the next president of the country with over 62% percent of the votes cast in Iran’s 10th presidential election, supporters of his main rival Mir Hossein Mousavi rejected the results and took to the streets of Tehran and other cities in daily rallies.

Once calm was restored in the country, Iran presented documents proving West’s interference in Tehran’s affairs and its role in stoking the unrests.

After Iran found out that the western powers had played a direct role in the unrests, it detained hundreds of protestors, but later released many of them.

On August 1 Iran started trial of a large number of detainees with major roles in the country’s post-election frenzy in which they confessed to their relations with certain foreign countries which contributed a role in fomenting unrests.
