The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that killed ex-finance minister, Mohammad Shatah, along with several others in Beirut.

Hezbollah believes that “this crime is one of a series of crimes and blasts aimed at devastating the country,” the movement said in a statement on Friday.

The statement denounced the move as a despicable crime and a “flagrant attempt to target the national stability and unity” in Lebanon, and stressed that only the enemies of Lebanon would benefit from such attacks.

The resistance movement “called on the Lebanese to be rational and wise in order to face the dangers which are threatening their country.”

It also urged the security and judicial officials to capture the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

On Friday, a massive car bomb detonated near the Lebanese parliament and March 14 Alliance headquarters in central Beirut.

Shatah, his bodyguard, and at least three civilians were killed in the explosion, which left around 70 others injured.

According to Press TV correspondent in Beirut, the death toll is expected to rise as the wounded are in critical condition.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the Friday bomb attack.

A senior March 14 figure, Shatah, had also served as an adviser to former premier Saad Hariri.
