Bolivia Seeks Iran’s Help in Dam Construction

Bolivian Deputy Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Alurralde lauded Iranian experts’ high capabilities, and called on Iran to construct small- and medium-sized dams for the Latin American country for agricultural purposes.

“We ask Iran to help us with dam construction and irrigation projects, including construction of small and medium-sized dams, for agricultural purposes and power generation,” Alurralde said in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Majid Takht Ravanchi in Tehran on Sunday.

The Bolivian deputy foreign minister, meantime, expressed his country’s support for Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear technology, and said, “I hope that a recent nuclear deal reached between Iran and world powers would be implemented as soon as possible.”

Takht Ravanchi, for his part, stressed Tehran’s resolve to expand ties with the Latin American countries, Bolivia in particular.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran considers interaction with Latin American countries in different fields as a priority,” Takht Ravanchi.

The two sides also exchanged views on the West’s double-standard policies on human rights, misuse of war on drugs and ineffective and ambiguous policies in war on terrorism.

Iran has been seeking to boost its ties with Latin American countries in recent years to the concern of the United States.

The strong and rapidly growing ties between Iran and Latin America have raised eyebrows in the US and its western allies since Tehran and Latin nations have forged an alliance against the imperialist and colonialist powers and are striving hard to reinvigorate their relations with the other independent countries which pursue a line of policy independent from the US.
