At least four people have lost their lives and 29 others have been injured in a bomb explosion in Pakistan’s southwestern city of Quetta.

A remote-controlled bomb fixed on a motorbike blasted outside a food shop on a busy street in the capital of Balochistan Province on Wednesday night.

The blast from the bomb, which contained about five kilograms of explosives, also left several nearby buildings and vehicles damaged.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Officials say the death toll could rise as some of the injured are in critical condition.

Over the past few months, pro-Taliban militants have destroyed dozens of gas pipelines and power towers in different parts of Balochistan.

Militants have also carried out numerous attacks against security forces as well as civilians, and managed to spread their influence in various regions of Pakistan, despite frequent offensives by the army.

In a latest attack, a group of pro-Taliban militants stormed into an army-run school in the city of Peshawar and killed over 140 people, including 132 children.

The Pakistani government has vowed to crack down on the pro-Taliban militants behind the deadly attacks in the country.
