Bomb blasts injure two dozen across Afghanistan

A series of separate bomb explosions have left at least two dozen Afghan civilians injured across various parts of Afghanistan, officials say.

Zia Durani, a spokesman for the police chief in southern Kandahar Province, said that at least three people, including two police officers, sustained injuries after a car bomber targeted a police checkpoint in the Daman district.

Meanwhile, Gen. Abdul Habib Sayedkhaili, the provincial police chief in eastern Kunar Province has confirmed that 16 civilians were wounded after a bomb hidden near an electric station exploded in the troubled region.

Separately, five civilians were also injured after a bomb attached to a motorbike exploded in the Aibak, the provincial capital of northern Samangan Province.

In another development, the Taliban militant group has warned hundreds of villagers in the Deh Yak District of the central-eastern Ghazni Province to leave their homes as soon as possible. The militants have also blocked routes leading to their village, which has resulted in serious problems for local residents.

Also in Ghazni, Taliban militants on Saturday dragged out dozens of passengers from different vehicles and took them to unidentified locations. Sources say that Taliban are still holding more than a dozen people captive.

Taliban militants have stepped up their attacks against Afghan government and foreign targets across Afghanistan in recent months.

Afghanistan is gripped by insecurity nearly 14 years after the United States and its allies attacked the country in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. Although the attack overthrew the Taliban, many areas across Afghanistan still face violence and insecurity.
