A bomb explosion has left three policemen slightly injured in a Shia village in Bahrain.

According to Bahrain’s Interior Ministry on Friday, a bomb blast slightly wounded three policemen who were on patrol in the Shia village of Bani Jamra.

The ministry claimed the incident was a “terrorist” attack, adding that “necessary steps are being taken.”

The village has been the site of anti-government protests in recent years.

Earlier this month, similar attacks killed two people, including a police officer in Damistan, southwest of the Bahraini capital of Manama.

This is while Bahrain’s main opposition party al-Wefaq has always reiterated that revolutionary movements in Bahrain are opposed to any kind of violence, adding that Bahrain’s pro-democracy protesters are only committed to peaceful activities.

Since mid-February 2011, thousands of pro-democracy protesters have held numerous rallies in the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.

Bahrain has been severely criticized by human rights groups for its harsh crackdown on anti-government protesters, which has claimed the lives of scores of people so far.
