Bomb explosions kill 4, injure dozens in Iraq

344245_Iraq-bomb-blastAt least four people have been killed and dozens wounded in three separate bomb explosions hitting several Iraqi cities.

According to Iraqi medical officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Tuesday, two people were killed and 55 others injured after an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into a police station in the city of Kirkuk, some 250 kilometers north of the capital Baghdad.

The death toll is expected to rise as some of the wounded are in critical condition.

On the same day, an Iraqi soldier was killed and another wounded after a roadside bomb hit an army patrol in the Madain area, southeast of Baghdad.

Moreover, in Baghdad’s suburb of Jisr Diyala, a bomb explosion killed an anti-al-Qaeda fighter and injured four others.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but Iraqi officials say the main suspects are militants linked to al-Qaeda.

On January 5, at least 20 people were killed and dozens more injured in a series of bombings hitting Baghdad.

On January 2, a bomber detonated an explosive-laden car near the Iraqi city of Baquba, killing 19 people and injuring 37 others.

Iraq’s Interior Ministry has said that militants have launched an open war in Iraq and they want to push the Middle Eastern country into chaos.

“The country is currently facing an open war from bloodthirsty sectarian forces that aim to plunge the country into chaos,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement issued on July 30, 2013.

The United Nations says at least 8,000 people have lost their lives in Iraq in 2013.
