The Iraqi Oil Ministry says assailants have bombed a section of a pipeline carrying fuel oil from the country’s largest refinery to the northern province of Nineveh.

According to AFP, the ministry’s spokesman, Asim Jihad, said on Sunday that the bomb attack was carried out the previous day in an area located some 390 kilometers north of the capital, Baghdad. There were no injuries in the bombing.
Jihad stated “A bomb attack led to an explosion in the 16-inch pipeline transporting fuel oil from Baji refinery to Nineveh province.”
He added that technical teams had started work to repair the pipeline, and that repairs would take several days.
Attacks against Iraqi energy installations and oil pipelines have dropped significantly over the past few years compared to the height of violence in the country between 2004 and 2008.
