Boroujerdi, Iraqi FM discuss regional issues

Head of Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commitee Alaeddin Boroujerdi and Iraqi Foreign Minister Bashar Ja’fari discussed regional developments and bilateral ties with in Baghdad on Friday.

During the meeting held in Baghdad, Boroujerdi described bilateral relations as strategic and important emphasizing the need to strengthen economic ties and raise trade between the two countries.

He also pointed to the outcomes of his recent visit to Syria and Lebanon, calling the upcoming meeting between the Syrian government and the opposition side in Astana an important step towards the political solution for the country’s crisis.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister Ja’fari, for his part, extended his condolences over the demise of Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani and pointing to the recent visit of Turkish and Jordanian Prime Ministers Binali Yıldırım and Hani Al-Mulki to Baghdad, said Iraq has always supported the Syrian government in Arab League and the international community.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation, led by Boroujerdi, travelled to Iraq at the official invitation of the Iraqi Parliament to attend the Baghdad Dialogue Conference and the Future of Post-ISIL Iraq, which is to be held in Baghdad on January 14.
