Brazil flood death toll reaches 767

The death toll from Brazil’s devastating floods, which were caused by heavy rainfall, has reached 767, as rescuers are now able to reach isolated regions.

At least 767 deaths have been reported, while another 400 have been reported missing.

Rescuers, who are now able to reach isolated areas, continue to search for dead bodies as they supply aid to flood victims.

The floodwaters washed out roads and swept away bridges, which slowed the transport of aid to areas such as the village of Brejal, the Associate Press reported.

The inundation has, moreover, destroyed numerous cars and houses in southwestern Brazil.

The recent floods and mudslides, the deadliest natural disasters in Brazil in the past 40 years, were severe enough to change the geography of the region, according to officials.

Rescuers are finally arriving in villages cut off due to destroyed roads and bridges. The hampered rescue operations are being carried out amid high risk of further mudslides as unrelenting rain further destabilizes the soil in the waterlogged region.
