Breaking: Syrian Army readies to launch important operation in north Hama – Map

The Syrian Army and allied paramilitary groups are gearing up for a major operation aimed at securing the strategic hilltop area of Tal Sakhir in Hama province’s northern countryside.

Syrian Army commanders have deemed the capture of Tal Sakhir to be of the upmost important due to the fact that it commands fire control over the nearby government stronghold town of Kernaz.

Several days ago, various rebel group joined ranks to launch an offensive against the Syrian Army in northern Hama.

Although the assault failed within six hours of being initiated, militant forces did actually managed to seize Kernaz relatively quickly after which they held it for a brief time before pro-government forces counter-attacked.

The town’s quick fall has made the Syrian Army realize its vulnerability whilst Tal Sakhir remains in rebel hands (having been captured by Ahrar al-Sham in March 2017).

If the Syrian Army and allied paramilitary forces manage to seize the strategic hilltop area, not only will they have better secured Kernaz, but they will also have gained fire control over militant supply lines running to and from the rebel stronghold of Kafr Nabudah.
