Breaking: Syrian warplanes unleash powerful retaliation operation in northeast Damascus for rebel rocket attack on airbase

Several hours ago, militant groups operating out of the Qalamoun mountains in northeast Damascus province attacked the Syrian Air Force’s Ad-Dumayr military airport with rocket artillery.

Since then government warplanes have launched a powerful retaliation operation against armed rebel factions in the region.

According to military-affiliated sources, Syrian jets targeted insurgent tactical positions, checkpoint areas, fire bases, gatherings and movements on the Al-Batra mountain and at the town of Ar-Rahiybah (as well as its surrounding countryside) with bombs, rockets and cannon.

Reports add that Syrian Army Grad artillery units also hit militant positions in the same areas of northeast Damascus.

At the present time it is still unknown if any serious damage has been inflicted on Syrian Air Force equipment or infrastructures at the Ad-Dumayr military airport due to the rebel artillery attack.
