British FM Underlines Gradual Removal of Banking Problems with Iran

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson underscored the necessity for the further expansion of economic ties with Iran, noting that obstacles to bilateral banking relations are being obviated.

“The banking barriers are being removed gradually,” Johnson said in a meeting with Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi in Tehran on Sunday.

He also stressed Iran’s important role in resolving the problems and crises in the region.

Salehi, for his part, elaborated on barriers to mutual banking cooperation, stressing that their removal is necessary to maintain the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and the world powers.

In relevant remarks earlier today, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined the necessity for the further development of banking relations and cooperation between Iran and Britain in line with the implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal.

President Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with Johnson in Tehran on Sunday.

“Implementation and maintenance of the nuclear deal is important and we believe that every one, specially the Iranian nation, should be able to use the benefits of the nuclear deal,” he added.

Elsewhere, President Rouhani referred to the recent events in Palestine, and said, “The regional conditions are so sensitive that no one should pour fuel to its fire and the recent decision by the US president to relocate the country’s embassy to the holy Quds was an incorrect decision and was like putting gas in the regional fire.”

Johnson, for his part, referred to the good trade and economic opportunities in Iran, and said, “We are interested in the British companies’ partnership in investment projects in Iran.”

He praised Iran’s positive actions in the fight against terrorism and development of peace and stability in the region, and said, “Britain believes that the US president’s decision to relocate the country’s embassy to Quds was an inappropriate move.”
