Brits do not trust media: poll

More than 70 percent of Britons do not trust media as they believe they put profit before reliability, a new survey has found.

According to the Ipsos/MORI poll, which involved 1,018 British adults across the country, only 21 percent of Britons said they trusted British media and journalist to tell the truth, while seven percent said they were not sure.

In reaction to the poll results, investigative journalist Tony Gosling said in an interview with RT that the media senior staff are to blame for the public distrust, saying these super-rich millionaires are “using their outlets to pedal their own political line.”

Gosling referred to media mogul Rupert Murdoch as one of such cases adding it is pretty easy for owners like him to hire journalists who support their views and fire those who do not.

Gosling also said the BBC is losing credibility since the 1990s as a result of poor management.

“At the moment, we’ve got the chairman of the BBC Chris Patton. He’s a former senior Conservative cabinet minister. He’s coming from a very specific point of view. I don’t really think you should have people of that political persuasion or any ex-senior politicians running the BBC,” he said.

“And the result has been things like the Savile scandal has come out but no one has actually been sacked for that…the staff has been moved around instead. This is the trouble,” he added.

BBC has recently faced grave embarrassment over sex abuse allegations against its former presenter Jimmy Savile. The corporation is accused of failing to report on investigations into his alleged crimes.
