Brutal Bahraini forces attack anti-regime demonstrators

Security forces in Bahrain have once again attacked anti-regime protesters as the ruling Al Khalifa regime continues its heavy-handed crackdown on dissent.

Clashes erupted during a funeral procession for two pro-democracy activists in al-Maqsha’a village west of the capital Manama on Tuesday.

Ahmed al-Mosajen and Ali Abbas lost their lives in a car explosion in the village on April 19.

On Monday, people in the town of A’ali and in the villages of Karbabad, Ma’ameer and al-Maqsha’a held demonstrations to express their anger over the recent death of anti-regime protester Abulaziz al-Abbar.

The 27-year-old died on April 18 after spending 55 days in a coma following injuries he sustained during a demonstration held in the town of Saar near the capital in February.

The Bahrain Center for Human Rights said security forces had fired teargas canisters and birdshot at Abbar.

Since mid-February 2011, thousands of pro-democracy protesters have held numerous demonstrations in the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.

On March 14, 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates invaded the country to assist the Bahraini regime in its crackdown on peaceful protesters.

According to local sources, scores of people have been killed and hundreds arrested.

Physicians for Human Rights says doctors and nurses have been detained, tortured, or disappeared because they have “evidence of atrocities committed by the authorities, security forces, and riot police” in the crackdown on anti-government protesters.
