tripoli-1

A cautious calm had been restored in the northern city of Tripoli after overnight clashes between the rival Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen neighborhoods following the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

The National News Agency reported Saturday that the clashes between the Mallouleh and Mankoubin areas and between Jabal Mohsen stopped at dawn on Saturday. No gunshots have since been heard, it added.

It said however that private and public schools were closed in the neighborhoods that witnessed unrest.

A ceasefire was announced by one side, the Arab Democratic party, after the death of six people, including a soldier, in the Tripoli clashes that broke out on Wednesday.
