A powerful car bomb attack has killed at least three US-led soldiers and injured several others in the Afghan capital, Kabul, Western military alliance says.

Western military coalition said the blast took place very close to the US military base, Camp Phoenix. The bomb went off when a convoy of foreign troops was passing by.

There is no word yet on the nationalities of the foreign soldiers.

The latest casualties have pushed to over 160, the number of US-led troops killed across Afghanistan so far this year.
According to the latest figures released by the website icasualties.org, 3,407 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led war began more than eleven years ago.

More than 84,000 foreign troops are currently stationed in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.

This comes as there has been no letup in the Taliban attacks on US-led foreign troops across Afghanistan with US-led troops and Afghan forces falling prey to Taliban attacks on an almost daily basis.

In late April, the Taliban announced the start of their annual offensive against US-led and Afghan forces, vowing a new wave of attacks across Afghanistan.

The militant group said it would use “every possible tactic” to inflict casualties on Afghan and US-led forces. They specifically mentioned insider and bomb attacks.

The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.

The US and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but the country is still gripped by insecurity.
