Car bombs, gunfire rattle Iraqi capital, seven killed

At least seven people have lost their lives and more than two dozen others sustained injuries in separate bomb blasts and a shooting attack in and around the capital, Baghdad.

A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said at least two civilians were killed and ten others injured when two improvised explosive devices went off close to a popular market in Baghdad’s southern district of al-Rashid on Tuesday, Arabic-language al-Baghdadia satellite television network reported.

Additionally, a civilian was killed and six others injured when a bomb detonated near a busy street in the Zafaraniyah district of southeastern Baghdad.

Unknown armed men also shot and killed a civilian in the same Baghdad district on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in the town of Taji, located 30 kilometers (20 miles) north of Baghdad, a bombing attack killed two civilians and left eight others injured.

Moreover, one civilian was killed and four others injured when a roadside bomb exploded in the town of Madain, situated about 20 kilometers (14 miles) southeast of the capital, killing one civilian and wounding four others.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq says a total of 714 Iraqis were killed and another 1,269 wounded in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in October alone.

According to the UN mission, the number of civilian fatalities stood at 559. Violence also claimed the lives of 155 members of the Iraqi security forces. A great portion of the fatalities was recorded in Baghdad, where 298 civilians were killed.

The Takfiri Daesh terrorists have run over parts of Iraq. They began a terror campaign in Iraq in June 2014.

Army soldiers and Popular Mobilization units have joined forces and are seeking to take back militant-held regions in joint operations.
