Castro’s son signs memorial book for late Ayatollah Rafsanjani

Son of the late Cuban Leader Fidel Castro who is named Fidel Ángel Castro Díaz-Balart visited the Iranian embassy in Cuba to sign the memorial book opened there for the late Chairman of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani who passed away on Sunday.

He also issued a message on Thursday in which he expressed deep grief over the demise of the former president of Iran, saying that Ayatollah Rafsanjani was one of the main figures in 1979 Islamic Revolution.

‘Due to his serious and continuous efforts, Ayatollah Rafsanjani deserves the appreciation and admiration bestowed to him Iranian the people as well as the international community,’ the message reads.

He also said that ‘during the presidency of the late Ayatollah, Iran and Cuba reinforced their friendly ties and cooperation in different fields.’

In his conversation with the Iranian ambassador to Cuba Kambiz Sheikh Hassani, the Cuban figure further said that he saw the late Ayatollah Rafsanjani as an intelligent figure and a friend.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission for the National Assembly of Cuba Yolanda Ferrer Gomez and the president of the Cuba-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group, Pedro Victor Simon Rodriguez also took part in Iran embassy to sign the memorial book.

Ayatollah Rafsanjani passed away on January 8 (Sunday) at the age of 82 due to a heart attack in a Tehran hospital.

He was a close ally to the Father of the Islamic Revolution the late Imam Khomeini and also the Supreme Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Sayyed Imam Ali Khamenei. Ayatollah Rafsanjani was a veteran cleric, a pillar of the Islamic Revolution and an influential politician, who served in different positions in the post-1979 Islamic Revolution era.
