Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has condemned the Israeli regime’s aerial assault that targeted a research center near the Syrian capital.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Hezbollah described the Israeli regime’s attack on Syria as “barbaric,” saying it “strongly condemns this new Zionist aggression,” which revealed its true intention towards Lebanon’s neighbor.

On Wednesday, the Syrian army said two people were killed and five others injured in an Israeli airstrike on a research center in Jamraya, near the capital, Damascus. Israel declined to comment on the issue.

The airstrike “openly reveals [Israel’s] motives toward [unrest] in Syria over the past two years and the criminal thinking aimed at destroying Syria and its army and eliminating its pivotal resistance and rejectionist role to pave the way for unfolding the chapters of a major conspiracy against [Syria] and against our Arab and Muslim peoples,” the statement said.

The resistance movement further called for widespread condemnation of the attack.

“What happened in Syria … requires a massive, widespread condemnation campaign by the international community and all Arab and Islamic countries,” the statement read.

Hezbollah also reiterated its support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and urged caution over the airstrike.

“Hezbollah which expresses full solidarity with Syria, its army and people, underlines the need for some to be aware of the dangers behind the attack.”

Earlier in the day, Russia also expressed concerns about the incident, saying, “If this information is confirmed, then we are dealing with unprovoked strikes against targets located on the territory of a sovereign state, which brazenly infringes on the UN Charter and is unacceptable, no matter the motive used for its justification.”
