Certain countries trying to create tension in Syria, official

Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Sunday that some countries are trying to create chaos in Syria.

They are trying to do so by arming the Syrian government’s opponents, said Amirabdollahian in a meeting with Oman Foreign Ministry’s Under-Secretary for Diplomatic Affairs Ahmed bin Yusuf al Harthy.

The meeting was held in Muscat, Oman, within the framework of the joint strategic committee.

The Iranian official further said Tehran supported the resistance front.

Elaborating on Tehran-Damascus relations, Amirabdollahian said the two countries enjoyed a strategic cooperation, adding that Iran tried to solve the current problems through dialogue.

He said Iran believed that aggression, massacre and killing of people should stop in Syria, underlining that foreigners had to cease meddling in the internal affairs of the country.

He then stressed that reforms were a must for Syria.

Appreciating Oman’s balanced stands on regional issues, including Syria, the Iranian official termed the meeting of the Tehran-Muscat committee as a proper opportunity for reviewing global, regional and bilateral issues.

The Omani side, for his part, termed Iran as an important and strategic country in the region.

Oman is against arming the Syrian opponents, said the Omani official adding conflicts in Syria should be solved peacefully.
