China has dismissed the head of the body overseeing the state-owned companies from his job due to corruption, reports say.

Jian Jiemin was sacked as the head of the Assets Supervision and Administartion Commission for “suspected serious disciplinary violations”, Chinese Xinhua news agency quoted the authorities as saying on Tuesday.

The top economic official served as the head of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) before prompting to his recent governmental position earlier this year.

Four CNPC executives have been also accused of corruption and they are under probe.

China has been witnessing several high- profile graft cases in recent months.

In August, former senior Chinese politician Bo Xilai stood on trial for charges of bribery, embezzlement, and abuse of power.

In July, China’s ex-Railway Minister Liu Zhijun was given a suspended death penalty for graft and abuse of power.

The country’s President Xi Jinping has declared a war against corruption among top officials, saying, “Bribe-taking by some party members and cadres poses severe challenges to the Communist Party’s rule.”

On August 30, President Jinping also ordered the alleged economic crimes committed by Zhou Yongkang who is a retired member of China’s Politburo Standing Committee, to be investigated.
