China optimistic about Iran-P5+1 talks

A Chinese delegation says it is optimistic about the upcoming multifaceted talks between Iran and the P5+1 — Britain, China, France, Russia, the US, and Germany — in Turkey.

Iran and the P5+1 are preparing to continue their comprehensive talks in the Turkish city of Istanbul on January 21 and 22.

The delegation, headed by Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hailong, arrived in Istanbul for the multifaceted talks on Wednesday.

“The talks will bring forth some achievements through negotiations,” Wu told China’s Xinhua news agency, adding that he is optimistic about the event.

“I believe that we can achieve some progress if all relevant parties show some kind of flexibility in the talks,” he further explained.

The Islamic Republic and the six major powers ended their last round of talks in the Swiss city of Geneva in December.

On Tuesday, Iran’s Ambassador to the UN Mohammad Khazaei told Press TV that the talks will focus on political, security, economic, and energy issues in the region and on the international level.

“In our view, the (Geneva) talks were a positive step between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the 5+1. As we have already announced, Iran is ready to engage in serious and fruitful negotiations,” Khazaei said.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili said on Tuesday that if major world powers adopt a logical and positive approach toward talks with Iran, good results could be expected to be achieved.
