CIA plotting to create instability in Ukraine: Analyst

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) resorts to every possible means to create instability in Ukraine, a political analyst tells Press TV.

“I think this is all part of an American, or if you will, CIA plan to destabilize Ukraine by any way possible,” Deena Stryker, a journalist with opednews.com, said.

She explained that CIA head John Brennan was in Ukraine just a few days ago and US Vice President Joe Biden landed in Kiev on Monday, adding, “All these other things are just window dressing.”

She pointed to the statement following the recent four-party talks in Geneva involving Russia, the US, the EU and Ukraine on the turmoil in the Eastern European country and said Ukrainian authorities failed to comply with the accord.

“Obviously they have not complied. On the other hand, the Geneva accord is the usual standard refrain – refrain from violence, we strongly condemn,” Stryker said.

The commentator’s remarks came after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday accused Ukraine of violating the Geneva deal signed recently in an attempt to ease tensions in the crisis-hit Eastern European country.

On April 17, Kiev’s interim government together with the United States, Russia and the European Union reached an agreement in the Swiss city of Geneva, calling for all sides to “de-escalate” the ongoing crisis in eastern Ukraine, where anti-Kiev protesters have seized buildings in several towns and cities.

However, hours after the signing of the accord, US President Barack Obama warned that Washington is prepared to take further action against Russia in case of a possible failure in the deal concerning the Ukrainian crisis.

Tensions between the Western powers and Moscow heightened after Crimea declared independence from Ukraine and formally became part of the Russian Federation following a referendum on March 16, in which nearly 97 percent of voters in Crimea said yes to reunion with Russia.
