Coincidence of Afghan assassinations and US drawdown suspicious

Iranian Ambassador to Afghanistan Fada Hossein Maleki says the coincidence of the recent assassinations in Afghanistan and the pullout of the first group of United States troops from the country seems “suspicious”.
“The fact that the recent assassinations in Afghanistan have coincided with the pullout of the first group of the U.S. forces seems dubious to me,” Maleki told Fars news agency in an interview published on Saturday.

Commenting on the recent remarks of the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, Ryan Crocker, in which he said that Washington is in no hurry to withdraw its forces from Afghanistan, Maleki said, “That contradicts what other U.S. officials have said.”

Contradictions in U.S. officials’ remarks reveal that, after ten years, they still do not have an explicit policy on Afghanistan, Maleki added.

Afghanistan and regional countries believe that the Afghan government is capable of providing security for its people throughout the country, he said.

However, he added, the international community and the U.S. government should fulfill their commitments in Afghanistan and supply Afghan forces with the equipment required for maintaining peace and security in the country.
