Real value of wages falling in UK

4c99f17504e89ddf63d442e7fedaf3de_LOfficial figures show the real value of British workers’ wages has been falling consistently since 2010, marking the longest period in half a century.

According to Press TV quoting figures released Friday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), real wage growth has fallen to minus 2.2 percent since the first quarter of 2010 – the longest period for 50 years.
The ONS figures showed wage growth averaged 2.9 percent in the 1970s and 1980s, 1.5 percent in the 1990s, and 1.2 percent in the 2000s.
Earnings have been pushed down due to low productivity growth within the economy, the ONS said.
The administration of Prime Minister David Cameron administration claimed last week that real wages outpaced the cost of living last year.
