Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced on Friday that his force will unveil a new submarine and several Jamaran-class destroyers manufactured by the country’s experts and engineers in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2014).
“As a result of the efforts of Iranian experts, we will unveil Fateh submarine with high capabilities this year,” Rear Admiral Sayyari told reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony to mark the National Army Day in Tehran today.

The Iranian Navy commander also noted that the new Jamaran-class and Kaman-class destroyers will be unveiled in coming months.

The Iranian Army has recently test-fired different types of newly-developed missiles and torpedoes and tested a large number of its home-made weapons, tools and equipment, including submarines, military ships, artillery, choppers, aircraft, UAVs and air defense and electronic systems, during massive military drills.

In September 2012, the Iranian Navy officially launched a heavy submarine after the subsurface vessel was overhauled by the country’s experts.

Tareq 901 submarine was launched in Iran’s Southern port city of Bandar Abbas at the order of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and Commander in Chief Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country’s military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.

In June 2013, Iran launched its overhauled and modernized destroyer named Bayandor in the Southern waters of the country in the presence of Army Commander Major General Ataollah Salehi and Rear Admiral Sayyari.

Army officials said the Iranian Navy’s power of safeguarding the country’s territorial waters as well as maintaining security in regional and international waters has increased after the launch of Bayandor.
