Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan downplayed the ISIL terrorist group’s threat to Iran, stressing his forces’ full preparedness to suppress any danger.

“The ISIL is too small to threaten us,” Pourdastan told reporters in Tehran on Monday.

He also announced that the anti-terrorism drills which were due to be staged on the outskirts of Tehran city today were postponed to mid January, adding that they will be held near the Central city of Qom more extensively and with higher quality.

In relevant remarks on Wednesday, a senior Iranian commander announced that the country’s Ground Forces had planned and prepared themselves for holding several massive wargames in the next few months.

“We have provided the ground for a number of drills in the near future, which will be staged by the end of the current (Iranian) year and people will be informed about their details (later),” Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Ground Force Brigadier General Kioumars Heidari told FNA.

He also underlined the Iranian Armed Forces’ preparedness to confront any aggression, and said the terrorist groups, including the ISIL, and their allies are unable to pose a threat to the Iranian borders and even the superpowers are not able to make military aggression against the country.

Different units of the Iranian Army’s Ground Force staged massive military drills in the Eastern parts of the country last month.

The Iranian Ground Forces’ massive wargames were codenamed ‘Mohammad Rasoulallah (PBUH) 3’.

Different infantry, artillery, electronic war, psychological war, drone and air force units of the Ground Force participated in the drills.

In the main phase of the exercises, the hypothetical enemy targets were destroyed using heavy artillery fire and massive air and ground attacks.

Also, the quick reaction units of the Ground Force carried out operations against the hypothetical enemy targets using the most advanced home-made weapons and equipment.

General Pourdastan underlined in January that the wargames staged by different units of the country’s Armed Forces played a deterrent role against enemy threats.

By Mohammad Rasoulallah (PBUH) drills staged in the Southern and Southeastern parts of Iran in late December “we showed to the regional states that the defensive capacities of our country and the region are so high that there is no need for the presence of foreigners”, he said at the time.

The wargames showed that the Iranian Armed Forces are ready to give a crushing response to anyone who might dream of an attack on the country, Pourdastan added.
